Updated: Jun 6, 2018

Are you planning to visit Montañita soon? Looking for ideas as to what to do and how to have a blast visiting the Ecuadorian the coast? Look no more, I have prepared a guide with all the top things to do here.

When you hear the word Montañita. All that probably comes into your mind is: surfing, partying, Spanish, multicultural city, diversity, tourism, gastronomy and nature. Yes this place has a variety of things to offer you. Montañita is fast turning out to be one of the most wished destinations in south America, not only for the Ecuadorians themselves, but also for people from all the world.

“To escape and sit quietly on the beach - that's my idea of paradise.” Emilia Wickstead

I couldn't be more agree with Emilia's quote, sitting on a beach and just relaxing can be one of the pleasant feelings in the world. So Montañita is the place for Montañita surfing contests and waves which are usually celebrated around the beginning of the year.

#Montañita is located in the Parrish of 'Manglaralto' in the province of Santa Elena about 180 kilometers northwest of Guayaquil. It an be best described as a small surfing paradise with wonderful beaches and awesome waves.

There are a laid-back atmosphere and steady stream of cosmopolitan backpackers, with as many South Americans as gringos. Due to the small size of the town it is hugely surprising that there are no supermarkets. Instead, you will find multiple small shops and the odd fruit and veg lady.

Where to sleep in Montañita is probably the only problem you will not have, The beachfront is full of hostels, Airbnb, hotels, #Couchsurfing hosts, basically with something to satisfy every budget. Prices get more expensive as you get closer from the bars and beach, but you can still find a relatively quiet hostel without breaking the bank. We got a shared apartment just next to the beach with a beautiful view for only 20 USD. We found out about this place right at the arrival moment. Usually there are guys offering you places to sleep, so we decided to have a look and Boom! it was great!

Surfing; there are plenty of schools for beginners, If you’re just starting, lessons start at $20, and board rentals are available for $5-8 hour on the beach

The nightlife; here is where you can simply enjoy at your best; there are plenty of things to do. Hola Ola known for its Ladies Night on Thursday, it's one of the best parties you can live on a Thursday in Montañita. Admission costs USD 5. Actually Montañita is getting known because of nightclubbing and partying. Most people start at Calle de cocteles and after that they go to Caña grill. In addition to the waves and night life, you can try Spanish lessons and the seafood which is not expensive and very tasty. Also you can find beers at USD 1... yes you hear me right!

There are more other things to do like Wale Watching but I couldn't find much information about, well I guess you have an idea of what you could do there if you ever go to Montañita!

Come and enjoy one of the best beaches in the South Pacific Ocean.
