Playa Blanca: The hidden treasure in Colombia, a white beach in Boyaca!

Meet the lake which is consider a gem in Colombia. 'Lake Tota' Laguna de Tota is the largest natural lake in Colombia and the third in America, located in Sogamoso, east of Boyacá.

The famous gem is hidden in the Andes of Colombia. This Lake is characterized for its water being extremely cold water, green-blue colored and a white beach! It is also surrounded by pretty villages and beautiful, peaceful countryside.

“The lake and the mountains have become my landscape, my real world.”Georges Simenon

Playa Blanca is the most visited spot which has an easy access by public transport. From here you can take a boat to the other side of the lake or continue by bus. Its beautiful landscape, charming small villages and amazing fields of ... spring onions!

We visited Boyaca with only one thing in our minds, the "Playa Blanca", this isolated place was recommended by a friend whose journey was only two months before our trip there, and he said it was incredibly funny, dancing with local people "música del llano" and wearing local customs was something that somehow attracted us but moreover the big desire of finding the white beach surrounded by mountains and nature.

This was the preview of the white coast from the pier.

It took us just a couple of hours to get there by bus and once there we had no regrets it was insanely beautiful and very cold. Of course, we didn't swim in there but I believe when it's warmer you can try it.

Playa Blanca, also known as #Boyacá Beach is a natural beach located in the White Bay around the southwestern coast of #TotaLake in the department of Boyacá (Colombia)

The lake is a big high altitude lake with a sandy beach. It offers boat rides, horse rides, quad bikes (for whatever reason) and a decent restaurant. It could be an incredible place but it seems like nobody sees it's potential.

Such a peaceful spot, I would definitely come back here again any time soon.
