Work-From-Home: Top 15 Legitimate ideas!

Updated: Nov 4, 2018

You've seen it right, I beg, you know of at least one person working from home. More and more companies are recruiting people to work from home. Studies show that people who work from the comfort of their own homes are more efficient, and this, for companies, is something to keep in mind.

Surely, the number of opportunities to work from home will increase considerably in the coming years. But there are already some companies that are offering very interesting opportunities.

So have you ever wondered what do you need to do in order to work from home? If you're looking for some ideas, or professions that you could use to work from here, you came to the right place.

“Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements”. - Peter Gibbons in Office Space.

Let's face it, work habits... as we used to know them are something completely different now. We often crash with new careers, new jobs, new information, in fact a bunch of new things we don't fully understand maybe at certain point many of us feel not evolving along this path the new digital era has brought wit it. So if you like me think about changing that. Learn how to be part of this and and keep up with the vibe, then this article is definitely for you! Don't be old fashioned and enjoy the perks of working remotely.

We are currently experiencing a huge change, we are witnessing more and more people working from the comfort of their houses, if we compared to the last years... and sometimes we feel... why can't we also be part of this?

Do you often feel tired of your 9/5 job? are you completely bored because you do the same 5 days of your week? Do you feel unproductive and being sold out? You hate your boss and you wish you where somewhere else? All these questions and more cross my mind when I hear the word ''work''. Being productive doesn't mean being 8 hour a day doing the same, you usually work only 60% or some people only 40% out of a full schedule, if you don't believe me, ask the dutch workers, they have established a work system where you work only part time and the statistic shows only good things. So long history short, is not how long you do it but how you do it! ''That's what she said''.

That's why I consider a full-time job a way of 'slavery', time selling and wasting great opportunities in pursuing your own dreams.

Passion

It is crucial that you know what you're passionated about. Know what you're best at, and understand what you enjoy doing. It's not that hard to find, for instance; If you try to remember your childhood and think about what you were best at or what you really enjoyed doing, the possibilities are many.

If you work only for the money then that's what I call wasting your time/life. I know! we all have bills to pay or children to feed. But when you do what you love, you understand that working shouldn't be about only getting money, but to really do what you like to do, take advantage of your passion and turn it into a full-time job.

So are you ready to start a new chapter in your life and to say goodbye to your 9-5? If your answers yes, great for you! continue reading below.

Personal Experience

If you want to find the 15 ideas simply scroll down!

While I was living in Madrid I've got myself a job working in a major company for an alarm system tech business where I was part of the Technical Support BackOffice, it was not a bad job and the salary neither. However, it was quite far from where I lived. My home place was 3 hours away so basically, I had to face public transportation on a daily basis as many of you do, and for a very long time! getting up early in the morning, taking the 1st bus, then 1st metro, then 2nd metro... in order to get to my work office... I was spending 3 hours of my day only in public transportation. ''a total of 11 hours away from home''. I don't like to complain about life in general... but that wasn't easy to deal with (I know there are people who have it worst so, remember this is only my personal point of view). Anyway, I'm usually very analytic, so I counted down how many hours I was wasting while using public transportation, 3 hours a day, from Monday to Friday, made a total of 48 hours per month! I was like what the heck, am I really spending that long time only waiting? can you imagine! 2 whole days a month just sitting while I had to wait to get work or home. Nonsense!

It was not all bad though, I could use this time to study/read interesting things while on the traffic. Anyway! my main goal here is to share how could I change that from what I did, to what I do now, working only probably 4 hours a day (remotely) and the rest using it to learn german, work out, and blog.

So you can start working from home earning a decent income and with the time and dedication even thinking about leaving your 9-5 job.

The Downside From Working Remotely

I don't consider these things as downside, but for some people I've met, these aren't things they particularly enjoy. Ok so here your first advice, working online or working from home as many people call, it's basically being your own boss so you need to be very responsible, disciplined and mostly patient! It's important to really commit to your your duties and more importantly respect your clients by meeting deadlines or simply being responsible.

You also need to understand that there are no health insurances or life insurances, in most cases paid vacations or holidays off. All these things you pay it on your own. So yes, working independently have its own downsides. But as always, it depends from the point that you see it.

If you're often using a health service, or you need it for your children or for any member of your family, perhaps you will have some difficulties since you will have to pay it independently. If you consider as many other people a top priority to own a health/life insurance or even paying a retirement pension, you can do all these just by doing some research at your location. I'm pretty sure there are many businesses in charge of handling insurance plans for people who work independently. BTW! when it comes about holidays, well, you work from home? why not travel and work from where you are at the moment.!

Payout

So we know now, that we have to be responsible and take care of our own expenses. Payout is an important topic and it usually varies depending on what you do and how much you charge for that. There are plenty of platforms that you can use to work remotely. The most used ones are:

Most of these platforms, you can sign in for free, simply create a profile, fill up personal details, work experience, a couple of tests, and start looking for jobs according to your niche.

About the payout, at most cases, you can measure it by putting how much money you want to get per hour. So if you work for example as a writer, and you consider $15 a decent amount for an hour, then you can set it up that way. Basically, you get as much money as you work. (worth to mention that these platforms also have their own fees) aka service fees, taxes or as you wish to call it, there's usually no price for using these platforms, unless you work, usually a platform like Upwork deduct you up to 20% from a new contract when you start earning money, there is also bonuses or chances to decrease the service fee percentage depending on the time you've have work for a company. So when you gain more experience then you pay less, probably 10% or 5%.

So moving forward with our topic, there are several opportunities for people who wish to work from home, all of it just depends on the type of work or studies that you've done in the past. But believe me, the chances that you can find a job, are countless! so don't wait any more and get started with living your live dream!
